The writing block aims to:

  • develop the skill and will of writing,
  • give oppurtunity to ensure each student has an appropriate 'pencil'
  • share writing with peers and respond to others' writing.

This block is important for children with a disability as some learn to read by writing, some learn to speak by writing and some learn to think more clearly or solve problems more effectively by writing.

Writing tasks include, but are not limited to activities connected to the guided reading book.

Examples of writing tasks can be found in the sample literacy lesson on the four ways to literacy page.
